What are Network Adapters Network adapters is a hardware and it has different terminology among the network professionals. Network Adapters are sometimes called as Network cards, NIC cards i.e., Network Interface Cards. Usage of Network Adapter Main usage of network adapter is to connect the system to a Network enabling the system to perform network communication. It s not all the cards are same before you know about Network card you need to first understand that a Network adapter must match Network medium. Network medium is what type of wiring you have for the network. Firstly before connecting the network card to the network you need to find whether the network medium is friendly. Before buying Network card make sure what kind of networking technology you are going to use, cabling because each has its own strengths and weaknesses. Network cards can send and receive data through an ethernet cable. Hub is a device which assist to create a central connection point for computers on a network Hubs help us to makes networking possible, with the use of Ethernet cable tightly fitted RJ- 45 connector we can connect to a Port of an Hub, each hub has a number of ports on each port we can connect to one computer using Ethernet cable and rj-45 connector. Various types of hubs are available but generally speaking Hub is just a box, which holds lot of ports. Each computer will be connected using an Ethernet cable & RJ-45 connector inserted into each port of a Hub. Hub can do, two different jobs, firstly it creates a central point for all computers to connect and secondly it helps to order the ports in such a way that the data is received and it ensures proper receive of data on the wires. You might think how the data is transferred correctly if there is more than 100 to 200 computers, the answer is simple all is happening correctly due to the Network card, Each Network card is programmed with a unique Media Access Control address. When a system transfers the data which is on a Ethernet network with the help of Hub, frankly speaking the data reaches all the computers, but after when they reach, Network card compares the destination Mac address with the current Mac address and decide whether the data belongs to the system and ignores or accept the data on that basis.
